Morning all,
Hope this finds everyone well. I have a question about this plate I have in. Can you use heat and ice or whatever. Is it sensitive to things, etc. I really do not know much about it other than it is for stabilization. I am 10 days post op and am having some pretty rough pain in my shoulders of all places. I have muscle relaxers and pain meds but sometimes even that does not help. Just asking for some input from the experts.. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif.
Thanks and hugs to all

Hi Ginny,
I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I don't have any answers for you, but I'm sure the experts will come along soon.
I just wanted to tell you that I like the quote you have in your signature.
I hope you start feeling better soon :).

Hi Ginny,
I am almost 3 months post-op & I can certainly relate to the shoulder pains!! Thankfully, that has gone.
It all has to do with the surgery. If you are like me & some others here; you will disocover oochies & owies where you didn't before! Hang in there....
As far as the sensitivity of the plate is concerned, I have had no issues whatsoever!
I do know that you will not set off the alarm at the airport~~~~~!! And my daughter wanted to know if a magnet would stick to my neck! I did attempt it~ & of course it did not! Ha!
Please know that each day of your recovery is one day closer to being free!!
Stay Blessed!
P.S How was your Birthday?
Catherine

I use both. There are just sometimes when I feel like one seems to soothe it more than the other. I've been told to use whatever makes it feel better.
I'll be flying out on 7/11, so I was happy to hear that it won't cause the security machine to bleep as I'm passing through!!

Ice works best for pain caused by inflamation. Heat works best for pain caused by muscle tension.

The only affect I have with the cold and the titanium plate is in the cold I tend to tense the neck muscles which brings on pain. The heat (used in PT) does not affect the titanium.
My surgeon gave me a card to carry for when traveling by plane which indicates I have metal in my neck. I knew the titanium will not set the machine off but I was unsure if the screws would. I have flown several times in the last year and not once has the machines gone off.
Good luck with your appt. today. Hopefully you will get the OK to drive. Do you have a neckbrace you are wearing? I do know even if I had permission to drive I would not have done it with the brace on, just too dangerous.
