Is that the procedure where they put a tube with a tiny camera on it down your throat and into your stomach to take pictures and see if there is any damage????? If so, I have had one. It is considered a 'day surgical procedure' done in the doctors office. You will be highly sedated (they gave me Valium) but awake. The procedure doesn't take a very long time. The hardest part is supressing your gag reflex as they advance the tube down your throat. You will have to have someone drive you home afterwards as they will not let you drive yourself becasue of the Valium. They discovered that I had a severe gastric errosion (not quite fully ulcerated; caused by the meds I was taking) A couple months of some stomach meds and I was fine.

ajfinsand,
Thanks for the reply. That doesn't sound like anything I should be worried about from what you've told me. Just another fun filled day in the life of a cervie.....)~
Thanks again,

Hi firefighter. If this is the procedure the above poster described--I had one done also. They actually put it up my nosewhere it turns a corner somehow and goes down your throat. I can't say it was the greatest feeling--but it actually wasn't too bad--no sedation for me. He did have a hard time getting it up there as my nose was broken a few times before. It isn't real bad at all firefighter--no biggie compared to surgery--and hopefully will help your throat diagnoses and recovery. Good Luck.

Hermit,
Thanks, that's what I was thinking too. I made it through surgery so I should breeze through this.
How have you been? I hope your doing better Hermit.Have a great, pain free night.

Firefighter,
I don't know what this EGD thing is that you speak of but I do know about (what I like to affectionately refer to as) the forget drug. They give it to you with your valium. You're wide awake but don't remember a thing. It's the only way to go. I've had a few tubes stuck up me and down me in the past and I guarantee you, I would not do it without my friend...the forget drug.
I'm thinking about asking my doctor for a large bottle of it to take during my recovery from surgery tomorrow :) What do you think? A month or two supply of it ought to do the trick!
Try it...you'll like it ;)

DebbieMc,
I like your idea, maybe I can take one of the forget drug and forget I am having all this fun! :) See if you can talk the doctor out of a few for me please. I wished I had known about this drug when I was married.... I would have went to my family doctor and ask for a 7 year supply! lol
Have a great night,
Harvey

Harvey,
An EGD is pretty easy. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight, bring a driver. Put you in a cute little gown and start an IV.Your throat will be sprayed with lidocaine to supress the gag reflex. They will give you short acting sedation like Versed and you won't remember the procedure at all.
You'll get home and take a nice little nap and nothing to eat or drink for two hours,so that your gag reflex is back.
You'll do fine.

My son had it done when he was about 3 years old. They took a stomach biopsy while they were in there.
He came home just fine. I'm sure you will to.
Good Luck with it.

Catherine with a C,
It's OK, I know how a step-child feels now! Was the " I'll get back with you" something like ... the checks in the mail? lol I kidding, I read several post that I should respond to but honestly I don't know what to say.So I leave those in the good hands of the senior members with the wealth of knowledge.
Hello PsychLea,
How are you doing? I have been reading your post where your in alot of pain from work, this isn't good.I hope you have the chance to work part-time. Maybe that will allow more time for you to heal.
I'm ready for this test tomorrow, If he balloons my throat, like I think he will, I hope I'll see improvement when I wake-up.
Hello bdb,
It's great to hear from you. I haven't spoken to you untill now so here's a Good Morning to you. :)
Thanks for telling me about the test.I hope I don't know anyone at the hospital, that way if I cry.... they can't tell on me! lol I'm just ready to get it over with. I hope you have a great day.
Thanks,
Harvey

Had the EGD,
It wasn't anything. The nurse started the IV, waited for a exam room, wheeled me in and gave me a shot, next thing I remember is waking up in recovery 1 1/2 hours later.I was glad they put me to sleep. Oh, I forgot something, they did spray my throat, in the exam room, with something that tasted terrible and burned ( really bad )when I swallowed it.
Doctor ballooned my throat. Said I was looking good. Gave me muscle relaxers that I place under my tongue 30 minutes before I eat. Doc said I still have alot of swelling outside my throat and a small amount on the inside. All in all I'd say it went extremely well.
I'm not sure what the shot was but I'm still alittle light headed but feel good.

Harvey,
This procedure does sound like what I had (bronchoscope). I inhaled Lidocane that was terrible UGH but did numb up throat. They gave me the IV and I don't remember a thing until they woke me up. I went home at noon and I got all comfortable in the recliner. I didn't move until my husband came home that evening at 5:30! I still managed to sleep that night! I'm glad to hear that you have some answer - YEAH! Take care.

Hello Cathric,
It was great to have a doctor act like he was concerned about my throat.... My NS didn't want to hear about a problem. I'm very well pleased with Dr.Davis, my Gastro doc. He's a really nice guy.... and if you can believe it.... he came and wheeled me into the room. When you have an appointment at his office, he walks over to you and ask If your ready for your appointment!! Not yell from 50 feet away. Not only is he a nice guy, I think he's a great doctor as well. Of course, after the way my NS has done... I'd like anyone! lol
How are you doing? I hope your feeling ok. I'm doing great, slight headache but other than that... I'm batting a 1000!
