Hi everyone,
I am home after sucessful ADR op on wednesday morning. My husband was goimg to post how I was doing but he had horrid flu and had to stay in bed.
I was rather terrified especially waiting outside theatre for 45 mins but after the anesthetic all was good and I awoke with the NS telling me all went really well. I was really uncomforatble amd threw up alot after. I was on morphine so that helped the pain yet I think it made me sick also. I had a drain takem out of my throat that had nothing in it anyway and felt better without that big tube.
My mum looked after me in hospital which was fantastic and poor DH had to sit by the door with his flu wearing a surgical mask. The nurses were slow with meds and kept saying how about panadol which was driving me up the wall but otherwisw it's good to ne home.
I have a headache. Anyone else have headaches after?
and some neck/shoulder blade pain but not too bad. The throat is the worst and swallowing.
Glad to be back and will rest now. Hope everyone is doing well.

I hope you have a speedy recovery!
I am going into my 4th week post op. I had a horrendous headache after surgery. I am still getting some. (I also had them before my surgery).

Hi Mel,
I'm glad you're back and doing well. I didn't have a headache afterwards. I just remember being very nauseous and weak. Do you think you could also have a touch of your husband's flu? I hope you're able to rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Thinking of you and hoping for a speedy recovery.

So good to hear from you http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif Everyday will be better than the day before and your head will be
clearer. :round: I am 1 week post-op. I felt like I had a sinus headache, even my nose was sore. But that past.
Boy, When it rains it pours. Hope your hubby is better. Both of you can just lay around and heal up.

Mel~
Yes I am still getting headaches, some days worse than others. I had severe headaches before my surgery from the nerve compression, I guess this is all left over from it??? I suffer from migraines as well. I thought they were the worst headaches until I started with these! Blah~

Hi Mel, Glad to hear you're feeling better. I had hopes of ADR but when I went to the ortho surgeon Friday, he did some checking and found out for sure I am not a candidate for this since I have already have one fusion (C6-7)5 years ago and now have two levels that need fused (C4-5 & C5-6) if I decide to go through with it - not too sure what I'm going to do at the moment.
Take care of yourself and hope your hubby feels better too.

Hi Mel,
I'm so happy to hear you are on the mend! From everything I read, ADR recovery is much quicker than ACDF and without the worries of fusion/no fusion. I'm very happy for you and hope that this resolves all of your problems for you and that your headaches soon become a thing of the past. Here's to your speedy recovery! :D

Hi all,
Carla,
So glad your on the mend. I have a similar headache to yours in that it is over the eyes and feels like sinus. I also quit smoking before the surgery so maybe I have a doubly blocked system.
Cat,
Thanks for the wishes. How are you doing. I hope the epi is still working for you and helping the pain.
Deb,
I know of another patient who was able to get the disc with one level fused and I have heard my NS say they can do even with 2 levels fused. Maybe look into it more , even if you have the fusion they seem to work very well.
Keith,
Thankyou so much for nice thoughts. I am slowly getting there and your right apparently recovery is alot quicker with the ADR. Here's hoping. How are you doing? I hope you are still doing well and no pain. Take care,
Mel

Anglemoon,
I am still getting the headaches and I have always got migranes also. Are yours getting any better? or are they any different to before surgery? Do you find any meds that help?

I am a bit foggy today so exuse my forgetting and re-posting.
Mel,
I really appreciate your concern. I know your situation must be overwhelmingly tough and I hope it is getting sorted. any news? I think you should move to a new country where they will treat you quicker. Take care,

Hi Mel,
I'm doing pretty well for being off meds. This past week with all the humidity has been a trial and I had to dip back into the pill bottle a bit to get through it, but I can live with that. My shoulder is about 95% better thanks to my new pain doc.
I'm anxious to see how quickly you recover with the ADR. I'm very envious. I wish the trials were over in the states and that it was an accepted practice. I think I would benefit from it. My problem is that they'd have to do at least 2 levels with ADR, and right now it seems the clinical trials here are looking only for those with one level. However, I feel my problems are pretty minor compared to a lot of the folks here, so I am counting my blessings and grinning and bearing it! :D

Mel~
My headaches have actually worsened since my surgery. I have a call in to my NS. I was taking Nerontin before surgery which did help, but I hated the side effects(affects?). My neck is "pinching" all over again and it is causing these headaches to BOOM!
I'll let you know what NS says.
