I had surgery on C5-6 in Feb. The really bad pain on my left side is gone. But other than that I am in more pain now than I was before the surgery. I have alot of pain on my right side which I never had before. Anyway, I went for a second opinion yesterday as my surgeon said there was an abnormality on my right side showing on my MRI, but he could not see clearly what it is. New NS said that I have spinal stenosis, degeneration, my spinal cord is flattened and misshaped in my neck. I know I have three other herniations left in my neck. New NS recommended an EMG, and he said he would do a five day course of steroid treatment. Also have alot of pain on the right side of my neck towards the front. He said that is from my spine being so unstable that I am damaging ligaments. I am somewhat confused by all of this and hoped that maybe someone could help me to understand. I am 38 years old and he said that I am much too young to have such a mess in my neck. I have had problems since I am 16, never had any accident or trauma to my neck. Although, my two brothers had the same surgery and my sister should have had it except she died at 40 years old because the doctors assumed the pain she was having was from her neck when in fact she was having heart attacks. Anyway, I am so frustrated and would really appreciate any help I can get!

Did the NS say how the steroid shots are going to help the flattening of the spinal cord? That would be my concern, and if you have other discs herniated in the neck what is his intention with them?

I think I would ask these questions and then get another opinion. If it is the second NS saying the steroid shots I would go back to the first before allowing them to give me the shots.

Good Luck
