My neuro told me that my spinal cord is flattened and misshaped? I had ACD six months ago. I had four herniations, they operated on one. Also, have spinal stenosis, DDD, problems with legs. So, I was wondering what a problem like that with my spinal cord means? I don't know if I have to be careful, or if I can just carry on everyday as usual? I wanted to ask here, sometimes doctors are not all that helpful. I guess I am just confused by what these things mean when you put them all together.

I also was noted to have flattening of the spinal cord at C5/6 nine months after a bad 3 level ACDF. They also reported on the MRI that I had myelomalacia (sp?) which translates from the Latin to 'white death.' That's where part of the spinal cord is just dead tissue.

I would check and see if there is something that they can do to releive the areas of pressure that are impinging your cord. Even though the cervical nerves control arms and hands, don't forget that the cord also goes down to the legs.

I had a CT scan for more definition and it showed my cord was no longer flattened at C5/6, but I am to have another review in Febrary to see how things are going.

Thank you for replying! Doctors kind of leave you in the dark sometimes! My neurosurgeon never told me anything, I thought I had surgery and now I am done. A Neurologist I recently went to for a second opinion told me about all of the other great things going on in my neck. But, he did not really explain anything to me. Today, was really bad with my legs, which seem to have new and different symptoms all the time. For awhile today they felt funny. Like I was having trouble walking or just standing. My knee would jump forward almost like it was buckling when I was standing. The back of my thigh was doing some type of wierd twitching, and I am always in some kind of pain. Even my big toe on one foot hurts alot at times and then starts to go numb. Yet, nothing that you tell doctors seems to really be addressed.

I asked for a copy of my results and went through it sentence by sentence. 5 sentences would say a lot and mean nothging. One sentence with 6 words would write a book. Make sure you get a copy of your report and then go through it and check out the words. Think of it as a foreign language. It can be pieced together with enough effort.
