Have read many of the posts here. One mentioned that their NS said the body may absorb (resorb) the damaged disk? Could I please have more information for better understanding. Is this often a possibility? And how much time before you would know? Thanks - Deb

Hi Deb,
Yes my NS and chiro both stated that over time the disc is absorbed by the body.
No one gives much detail other than the fact that they deal with the disc fragments that bother you in the meantime. I.e. my disc is sequestered (broken) off and somewhat free floating against my spine at c5-6 level. Over three years it is has moved to up and now my surgery will involve hacking at the vertebrae above that level to see where it is so they can eradicate the compression it has put on spinal cord there.
Its worse if you leave it if your disc is not still attached to the yolk it is oozing from. i delayed one surgery 1 1/2 years ago as NS said don't do it unless in constant pain and since compression had lifted at new MRI I didn't want to have it.,
Now I can't lift anything, type a little. treadmill but God help me if I try to have a normal day... I hate it as I had two jobs and now i'll i do is try to keep the house clean. Even my piano fingers are affected and i have stopped teaching... life is very boring but the pain is very tolerable until I awake with heavy arms or non feeling in my chest etc.,
I wouldn't wait for reabsorption. Surely that is what our ancestors had to do but we don't need to live like that waiting to see if it goes away. Sometimes intervention is the only way for some of us to cope. i wish I had dealt with my disc before and had it overwith. My life, my marriage and my sense of self have been affected by a miniscule piece of plasma/flesh/particle and it holds my day in its control... it insane.
Anyway enter question on the net and I am sure you can get the physiological biodegradeable process but the question is can anyone pinpoint the length of time... i doubt it.

thanks for your response. My sitting at computer time is very uncomfortable, and looking for an item that I thought I saw - well these days it could have been my imagination. So much information to find yet. I'm losing myself by the day, can't imagine years of this. My appt w/ NS got moved up to tomorrow. Not feeling ready. . .again - thanks! Deb
