Drew H 12-09-2002, 08:04 PM Hey all --
I finally admitted to having moderate generalized anxiety... and my doctor.. who RARELY gives out medication if not needed, agreed, and gave me a prescription for Paxil.
I'm going to start it soon..
Who here has used it with success?
Any side effects?
I can't wait to start feeling myself again..
I'm glad i have people to talk to about it here.
Drew
Hi Drew,
I've just finished a year of Paxil and therapy for my GAD, Social anxiety and depression. I'm glad to report that the Paxil helped me greatly - I've now been off of it for a couple of months and my Gad/SA is better than it's ever been.
The first few weeks on Paxil were tough for me with nausea and tiredness but once over that the side effects were manageable. Paxil also caused some sexual problems for a copuple of months but frankly I felt so depressed I wasn't that worried!
Overall Paxil was a great help to me in conjunction with counselling / therapy.
If I can help support you in any way just let me know.
Kind thoughts,
Zafu
Bubbly20 12-11-2002, 11:49 AM I will say to you though..please remember to take your doseage regularly – if I miss a couple of days I feel very dizzy. Also alcohol – for me it’s a big no no. I have been naughty and have had the odd binge…but I suffer for it quite badly as it stops the paxil from working.
Other than that – I had no real side effects, I felt a little nausea and a bit tired, but that’s nothing really.
I wish you all the luck in the world…and a much happier year to come. Well done
Bubbly

Bubbly20 12-12-2002, 06:05 AM Drew - i did actually post a message before that as i have to post 2 instead of one long one! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif ?
The thing with anxiety is we dont usually know what its about - just a constant thing around us.
I have found it helpful to look into my past to see what could be the root of it all...It helps you to stop asking "why"

Gingerwoman 01-14-2003, 04:19 AM Don't take it if you have any problems with your bladder. It made my life hell by making my bladder probs worse although it was good for anxiety. I am on Celexa now.
tamlis 01-14-2003, 08:26 AM Hi- I have taken Paxil for about 6 months. At first, the nausea was a little bit of a problem, but it gradually went away and it has really helped. Almost feel my old self again.

tooblue 01-14-2003, 09:24 AM I have been on Paxil CR for about 3 months. It has helped my anxiety immensely but I still feel depressed. I have a MD appt today to talk about something different that will help with both. My biggest side effects are TIREDNESS (so I take it at night now) and BIG decrease in libido. But both are better than anxiety!!
I learned in a class once that anxiety is an unknown fear of something. If you can name the fear then it really isn't "anxiety" in its truest definition. So it is best to say "I am worried about my test this afternoon" vs I am "anxious: about it. See what I mean??

icarus0812 01-14-2003, 11:09 PM I took 40mg of Paxil for about a year or so and it helped me immensely with my anxiety. I felt much calmer and even-tempered while taking it. My mom said she noticed I reacted much better in stressful situations while I was taking the Paxil. Like others have said, I also had issues with nausea the first 3 or 4 weeks, but it went away, and was a small price to pay for feeling so much better about myself and life in general. I did eventually stop taking Paxil because it caused me to gain quite a bit of weight. I would consider taking it again if the weight gain weren't an issue. Just stay positive and keep in contact with your doctor if you have any problems. Good luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Lau79 01-19-2003, 10:45 AM I was on Paxil for six months- it helped me so much with my anxiety. Unfortunately I had to go off of it because of weight gain and I was bruising easily. Icarus, just wondering if you've been able to lose the weight that you gained.
Mrs.romano 01-19-2003, 02:28 PM paxil was great side effects arent cool though i probably got every single one better its better than takin ZOLOFT ..anyways the side effects are worth having if its gonna help ya ..
i noticed when i was on them ii had no emotions like i couldnt cry .. then every like 2 months i cryed for a long time .. i guess it was saving my tears for a special day .. crying makes me feel better so that wassnt a problem..

Bunty 01-19-2003, 06:08 PM I took 30mg of Paxil for about 18 months. I didn't really have any side effects, and I think it helped me to learn to cope with my anxiety. Only problem is...I'm trying to come off it now and am really having a hard time. Apparently for a small percentage of people the withdrawal from Paxil is horrendous, even if you taper the dose down slowly. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to persevere...
How are your first few weeks on Paxil going?

VNC21402 01-20-2003, 12:47 AM I took Paxil for depression for about a year. It helped me a lot! The side effects when you're on it aren't too bad, but it's when you go off it or miss a dose that's kind of bothersome. I just recently started taking it again for anxiety. I am feeling better already. Be careful when you go off it, it is best to wean yourself off of it, gradually reducing the dose every couple weeks or so. I had some nausea the other day but now it's gone. I've also had some dry mouth/throat, and headaches, but it's mostly infrequent. Good luck!

icarus0812 01-20-2003, 09:57 PM Lau79 ~
Yes, I did eventually lose the weight I gained while taking Paxil, but it took me quite a while! I really liked the overall way I felt while taking Paxil and wish that the weight gain thing wasn't an issue. My anxiety has started to rear its ugly head in a big way lately, and I am trying to decide whether or not to go back on Paxil. I'm really afraid to gain all that weight back!
Drew~
How's it going with the Paxil? Hope you're doing well! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
