I went to see my dr. today re: my anxiety and he gave me a prescription for a sleeping pill (it's also an anti-depressant) called trazodone. I usually only get a couple hours of sleep a night, and my dr. feels that insomnia is contributing to my anxiety. Has anyone tried this med? I'm a little bit afraid to take a sleeping pill. I read the side effects and they really scared me.

dont let the side effects scare you there is side effects to every med... when you start them you wont worry about the side effects.. all you got to watch out for is finding it hard to breath and a rash.. that is all the danger signs you got to watch for.. just start them your doc wouldnt of given them to you otherwise.. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif and dont read to much on them as that will just contribuate to your anxiety http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

i've taken trazodone and it was okay. however since i needed it nightly it only worked a couple of weeks for me. take it half an hour before bed and you'll be out for at least 4 hours of solid sleep.

I've been given Trazodone "as needed" for sleep, but the pdoc said I could also take it for anxiety on an "as needed" basis. For anxiety, it would be a smaller dosage than for sleep. However, no driving while on this drug.

Has anyone used Trazodone for anxiety during the day?

I take Trazy only at night since I don't see how you could function on it during the day. I was wondering about any other meds to take for help in sleeping/anxiety?

I was given it for sleep and I took 1 dose and nearly freaked out.
It caused me to become so badly depressed and angry that I had suicidal thoughts and I have never had that ever. I was told to stop taking it immediately.

I've taken it for 16 years for sleep. I've been up to 400 mg. at one time, but am down to 150 mg. right now because I take Xanax. It's been a wonder drug for me. The only thing in me is that it caused weight gain. No other side effects. :cool: Oh and only take it at night. I wouldn't recommend it during the day.

trazodone is an antidepressant that sedates some as a side effect and is used as a sleeping pill sometimes, doesnt work for everyone

its important to take it just before bed, if trying it for daytime anxiety, take the first dose at home to see how you react

its generally thought of as not much good as an antidepressant and is seldom used as one

You're right Hry. I don't even take it for an anti-depressant, I take it for sleep. I take Lexapro for an anti-depressant.
