My doctor tends to think that eusatchian tube problems are causing my problems apparently when you are anxious this tight throat feeling is excasperated and all the muscles in your throat tighten and cause pressure
yukky isn't it?wish you the best

Stacy,
Another poster has replied to you calling this throat sensation 'Globus Hystericus' and this is exactly what it sounds like. Ihad exactly the same 2 years ago. Iwas referred to an ENT specialist who could find nothing wrong. My GP then told me he thought I was stressed. Within 6 months I went into a severe depression. Now the depression is under control I no longer have this throat feeling. It was my bodies way of trying to make me chill out and relax.
Acid reflux is also related to stress and anxiety. What meds are you on ??
Try and relax, Chris

I've been having some of these symptoms of "reflux" myself recently. So I was drawn to your post. I can swallow..it isnt in my throat. But after eating sometimes it will feel like someone is squeezing my stomach and I need to burp and sometimes it feels like a little food will even come up my throat. There is no nausea or pain...I've never had this before. But one thing I've noticed about anxiety symptoms is that when you "beat" one, that is, figure out that it's just nerves...it rarely bothers you again....So my body will manifest the anxiety in some other way...I keep telling myself it's "nerves"..and hope it goes away like so many symptoms before it...I didnt know that acid reflux was related to anxiety and tension. I appreciate that info!!!

HI
My husband has acid reflux it is terrible at times he feels like his throat is swollen together sometimes he tries to eat it just will not go down,he takes Zantac 150 mg his Doc told him when it does this to double up on his zantac for a couple of days it works. Also he is really an anxious person and very hyper. Also he sleeps with his head elevated when its really bad this helps to keep the acid down well that is my two cents hope it helps.
See ya Cutshort

Hi Cutshort...We're WV neighbors!...Thanks for the info....My problem hasnt bothered me to the degree your husband's has...It really sounds awful for him. Mine is just kind of on and off...but it is very interesting to find out that this can be caused by anxiety...Just when you think you've had every symptom anxiety can throw at you..another one crops up!...Hope he feels better soon...Kathy

I have 2 respond to this.
I have had problems for over two years. I blamed eveything on stress in which made me stressed. I have been in and out of Dr's, cring and so on. My problems were as inticated below:
Chest pain
dizzy
ear pain & ringing
cervical pain
bloating
headaches
neck pain
lump feeing in throat
increased saliva
burning tongue
sleepless nights
almost but not throwing up
AND the thing that bothered me the most is @ night when I laying down I would get a sorta like thump or contraction between the throat and brestbone, what I thought was palpitations.
I was given Paxil that I never had the guts to use. I have been to the heart doc and been tested every way possible.
I now see this other dr. and he concluded it is Acid Reflux. I have been on Prevacid for 2 months now and I NO LONGER HAVE ANY OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS. I am 100% a new woman, and love life again..............
I had to add this the palpitation feelings I had confused me as to how it would be related to Acid Reflux So i had to ask, Dr. said it is related. It's your esophagitis contracting (it opens real fast & closes)causing this feeling. My esophagitis is burnt due to the stomach acids comming up. You can say that I have it bad!
Be well all!!
Lisa

Mrs. Romano,
I'm a plagued with the tight throat, lump in the throat, can't swallow, etc. I have all those sensations. And they worsen the more worried I get. They are what brought me onto this board today. I knew this was something that could be caused by anxiety, but it still seems so hard to believe. I've been to the doc twice and to the emergency room twice (in a panic) and they all said I was normal. I was told once that I may have GERD (acid reflux disease). This was a few years ago. Maybe I need to look into that as a contributor.

Wow, this makes me feel a little better. I've had an on and off tension headache for about 7 months now. My neck, jaw, shoulders etc are very tight, i've been visting a massage therapist and haven't had much improvement. I'm on 30mg of Amytriptoline every night. I've been having heart palpitations the whole time but recently i've been having a burning feeling in my stomach, right between my rib cage, and at what feels like the beggining of my esophagus is, usually this happens at night after eating. I've also been taking about 6 IB Profen a day b/c my headache has worsen lately, anybody have any suggestions for me? How did you guys loose that tension?

Hi Macksey. First of all, you are not alone, and I have so many things going on in my body that scare the crap out of me, and am constantly getting tested.
Anyway, the Amytriptoline can give heart palps, and not make you feel very good. I was prescribed that, but I decided not to take it after I read up about it. What I was taking for my anxiety and everything else was Ativan, 1mg, but maybe only have a dosage because I didn't want to get hooked on pills on top of everything else.
The ibruprofen will definitely cause stomach upset. It can burn the lining of the stomach. Believe me, I know. It can cause burning, and if you have a history of ulcers or stomach problems it will definitely cause burning and whatever other awful feelings you are having, and six is alot to take anyway. If you must take them though, eat with the pills, as it is the only way to protect your stomach.
Try taking vitamins. I take vitamin c 1000mg, magnesium 400 mg, calcium w/D, stress ease and fish oil. I am thinking of upping the magnesium though. This does help, for some reason these vitamins make a big difference. It takes a while but they do help. I have had every symptom of anxiety or whatever it is in the past 7 months, turned my life completely inside out, and only now am I getting a bit better. I don't take the ativan anymore, and when I start feeling like I can't relax and get dizzy and light-headed and stuff I take a quarter or half of a Gravol. For my headaches I will take a half of a Tylenol 1 (w/codeine).
Hope this helps, but I can talk to you more through email if you like.
