View Full Version : A thumb pushing down hard in my throat. How to stop it?

Hi everyone. Finding this site has been incredible. I was convinced that I was having either heart problems/angina or lung problems, but I seem to fit the anxiety bill perfectly. I actually feel embarrassed to say I have anxiety symptoms because my life isn't anymore anxiety-filled than anyone elses, probably even less-so. Why do some people get these horrible physical symptoms? That pressure in my throat and chest can be unbearable. Sometimes I'll feel the throat tightness coming on when I'm not even in a particularly stressful situation. I don't know how to control or stop the symptoms. I saw a pill at the store called "Relora" that claims to have you "seeing the world through rose-colored glasses" and it caught my interest. Aside from a prescribed medication what can I drink or swallow that will help when I feel that invisible thumb pressing on my throat? Up until this point a good stiff drink has done it but that's not exactly practical. Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions! I have a feeling I'll be coming here a lot for advice and information.

Hi, anxiety and stress often cause pain or the feeling of a lump in the throat, get doc to check your throat in case anything is actually there.

valium or inderal as needed relaxes the muscles and will stop the feeling for a while

relaxation and stress reduction training also helps
