Has anyone had problems with hair loss or bad scalp problems from stress/anxiety?? I'm 27 and have been under a tremendous amount of stress for over a year ( along with an anxiety disorder) and my hair has thinned very rapidly. I also have a very itchy scalp. I'm assuming this may be stress related since hairloss does not run in my family. Just curious if anyone else has seen or heard of this. Thanks!

According to my doctor, I too have been losing my hair due to stress - it is not an uncommon situation. A lot of my stress is due to my health problems that have started about a year ago so there isn't a whole I can do about that part of it. I have been taking classes and reading books and articles out on the internet to try and help me overcome the part of stressful situations I can resolve. However, you can never be totally stress free. Have you tried talking to a doctor about this?

Arbed- Thanks for the reply. I actually saw a Dermatologist last week but I wasn't too impressed with her. She basically was like yeah, it might be stress related but shrugged it off as no big deal. It's a big deal when you're 26 and you lose half your hair in 8 months. I'll soon be resigning from my job which is causing about 80% of the stress and I started a vigorous cardio workout program to see if that will relieve some of the tension. I tend to bottle everything up and I can just fell it eating me alive. I just hope the hair grows back!

Hi
I am a 41y/o female who for years was told by my beautician that we all have a weak point where the hair is more sensitive to chemicals and STRESS.I would suggest to stop trying to "fix" everything. The longer I tried to make my life ok, the worse I seemed to make it. I am a new believer in christ. I knew God but had never accepted Jesus as my lord and savior. One thing is for sure, once I turned my life over to God i worry a lot less. I am much better off now. I don't continuously react to circumstances. I practice a lot, remembering to step back and see what God is going to do with a particular situation. Prayer is very important to open up your heart to what God would have us to do. Those thoughts that pop in your mind isn't just coincidence or your great mind working. God enables us to get a clearer picture and recieve his guidance through the holy spirit. Please try God/Christ. I am not perfect, but I am doing much better than did without Christ in my life. Let me know how you are doing
God Bless You

I am 30 and have 3 things that could be causing me hairloss as I am told. I did have a very stressful job and left in January. I started to lose my hair late february. I was put onto depression/anxiety medication while I was working. I was also tested for my thyroid which was low and my primary doctor says this is the reason my hair is falling out. But he also said that if the meds don't slow it down the he will send me to a dermatologist. But I also was on L.A. Weightloss for a little over 9 months and I did read that fad diets could also be a cause of hair loss and I am wondering if maybe there could be something within one of the products from la that could be causing this hair loss. I am total wreck over this and the more that falls out of course the more self conscious I feel. I do believe that bald is beautiful, but ONLY ON SOME, hehe. I thought to buy a wig but then of course people will notice something very different.

I am really asking if anyone else has had any of these problems as well as letting you know that I am also having a hair loss problem that is annoying.

Any help to me would also be appreciated.

scalp problems often respond to a fairly large multi vitamin tablet dose
scalp massage also helps, it improves the blood circulation there

I have never actually LOST hair because of stress, but during the most stressful points in my life it has felt like someone had almost pulled my hair out in places. My scalp hurt so much I could not even brush over it. When I was able to alleviate the stress in my life the symptoms stopped and have not returned.

my hair has been falling out for the last two years and I'm sure one of the reasons is stress, but i don't ever recall being as stressed as i am now that i'm losing my hair. I'm a hair dresser by trade and it's on my mind constantly...I HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO RELAX AND HOPEFULLY THE HAIR WILL GROW BACK. IT'S EITHER THAT OR WEAR A WIG.

well I am back and more bald. I am due to go back for more tests this week to see if my thyroid has changed any. I am getting very upset about my hair falling out and yes I have itchiness in my scalp. I am on lexapro and still feel a little anxious about things. I have tried all kinds of things that different people have told me. One told me to warm Extra Virgin Olive Oil up and spread onto scalp and hair and wrap tightly in saran/plastic wrap (anything similar) for 10 minutes (for 2 weeks) and this has seemed to work a little. Not sure if its the oil helping soften the scalp, but it was the only thing that actually helped at all. I am still losing the hair but not as much or as fast. But I can't wait to see what the doctor says this week. But its interesting to know that there are so many people out there with the same problem as me. Cause I walk around now and look at everyone's hair to see if they have any hairloss whatsoever and I never see anyone similar. Thank goodness for this site cause it does help a lot with dealing with our problems.

back again. went to the doctor and he raised my thyroid medication because i was put on it and my levels did not move one bit. still have the hair loss also and he has referred me to see a dermatologist. I have read on here that they do not help any with the hair loss. What does anyone think about this because I am concerned about this hair thing. Its very depressing. I did buy a few hats so maybe I could just get used to this style and forget the whole thing and stop worrying about it, haha.

I have suffered from Trichotillomania for years........and it's a secret stiil. I have to lie to hair dressers and change them all the time to avoid the issue. I rub on my scalp and have wore down the follicles. I do this I am not sure if it's stress; anxiety or just habit. It is the worst! I wish I could stop the urge.

And I do have spots of thin and sparse hair.
Any advice is needed. Thanks
