I would like to know the difference between a Psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this for me.

I have an apointment with a psychologist for anxiety.

A psychologist is only a PhD and does not have a medical degree. So they cannot prescribe meds.

A psychiatrist is an actual medical doctor and can prescribe meds.

I agree, a psychologist has studied at a university about how to help people with their relationship, anxiety and other problems

many psychologists call themselves 'doctor' thru having a Phd university degree, and I hope this isnt done to confuse their patients, they have no medical training

Gizmo and hry33,

Thanks for your reply. I am hoping that this is the only appointment I will have to have. The person I have an appointment with it says some of her medical intrests are anxiety, and cognitive-beharioral treatments.
anyone have good luck with this?
thanks for your replys and help
