Hey Donna...sorry to hear you're not feeling too good. I think that the absolutely best thing you can do first is to try to calm down. I really believe that you don't need to worry.

What you're describing sounds like a classic case of anxiety, and those chest pains and heart palpitations happen to a lot of us. My doctor taught me that to suffer from anxiety means that your body continually behaves as though you are in a frightening situation, even though you may not actually feel anxious in your mind. Because your body thinks that you're in a frightening situation, it produces way too much adrenalin, which can cause an amazing number of horrible physical feelings such as a racing heart, chest pains, dizziness, feelings of unreality, dull headaches...the list goes on and on unfortunately!

You could go and get a full physical check-up and get your heart examined etc. If the doctors are telling you that everything looks fine then I would think you're suffering from anxiety.

If so, there are lots of things you can do to ease the symptoms. Try sitting down for 10 minutes and concentrate on taking slow, regular breaths. My doctor told me to do this twice a day, and whenever I start to feel really awful. Also, exercise is a great way to use up all the excess adrenalin your body is producing, and relaxation techniques really work well.

I always read your posts and I think that you really need to find an explanation for why you feel so rotten. If you've had all the physical tests, and everything is OK, then try to accept that it's anxiety (and therefore excess adrenalin) that is creating the symptoms. I only started to recover from 2 years of feeling terrible when I truly understood that anxiety was causing my problems. Once I understood that, I stopped being scared of my feelings, which was a major breakthrough. Because if you're scared of your feelings, your body just produces even more adrenalin and the feelings get worse!

I really hope you start to feel better soon Donna, I know how utterly awful it is. I'm thinking of you - let me know how you're getting on!

Hi I have had lots of palpitations which were not attributed to anxiety - I had all the tests - ecg, holter, echocardiogrma etc etc. In fact I have learned that PVC (Premature ventricular contrations) are very very very common - in fact most people will have them every day and simply not notice them. They are in themselves harmless - take it from some-one who had up to 20 every minute all day 24/7. The best I can sya is that as your doc said they are harmless, they cannot and do not harm your heart. Indeed the fast pulse you describe will be your response to feeling the palps in the first place - so like they say relax. When you notice them - tell yourself that you r ok - then they wether they r there or not they will not bother u. i know that they r frighteniong - they frightened me 2. But u r ok. Good Luck
