Hey Guys:
I have heard so much about Cognitive behavioral therapy on this board and everyone sings the praises of it. Could someone please explain to me exactly what it is??? I have been on and off therapy for several years but the effects never stay with me. I am sure it wasnt this type. I am currently on Effexor xr 150 mgs a day and Klonopin as needed after struggling with daily anxiety for years. I plan to look into therapy once again after I get on an even keel with my meds. Thanks for any suggestions...is this a special type of therapist??
Thanks for this board and all the people who dont judge me for who I am...

CBT comes in many versions but basicly means identifying and unlearning your bad anxiety coping skills and learning new anxiety coping skills
many anxiety recovery books have CBT info
some therapists do it, others do therapy that doesnt help us much at all

Several books based upon CBT. "From Panic to Power" by Lucinda Bassett, "Hope and Help for Your Nerves" by Claire Weekes, and "Peace From Nervous Suffering" by Claire Weekes. Thanks for the books and websites. I will check them out. Just something I am thinking of pursuing. Hope all works out for everyone. My meds are helping me but I realize I need some kind of therapy too!
