Last night at 1:30 in the morning I awoke feeling really spaced out. My arms and back felt really warm then a cold sensation went from my neck through my shoulders down my arms and down my back. A tingly numb sensation rushed from the center of my back through my shoulders to my bicepts. Then I felt heavy and dizzy, all of this hapened several times, in waves, before I fell back to sleep.
Since June 24 I have been out of work due to my mystery illness witch I thought was going away till last night and today. All of this started with vertigo and depersonilization 24/7, then the vertigo turned to dizziness and then lightheadedness. I also have a full feeling in my ears, they feel poped. Whenever I have spells like the one last night I feel tired, spaced out with a bad headache in my neck and temples.
My first diagnosis was eustacian tube dysfunction. They put me on prednisone, zyrtec and nasonix, the nine days that I was on this medication I felt worse. My next diagnosis was anxiety so I was put on paxill, and even though I have had several attacks like the one last night my dizziness seems to be going away. I dont think the paxil has anything to do with that, I am still wondering, after 48 days, what good it is doing at all.
Im only 34, I have a wife and two kids that I love very much and I am scared that whatever is happening to me is going to kill me. I would also like to add that all of this started 2 days after stoping a drug called protonix and acephix for heartburn.
Will anxiety cause all of these problems and if it is anxiety why hasnt the paxil started to work. Have any of you ever had problems like this. Could the protonix have put me over the edge, I have heard that a side effect is deppresion and I have been deppresed and anxious since 12 years of age. Are there any ways to treat without these bad drugs.
Thanks to all for reading and to any responses.
Derek

well I can kinda relate to what you are going through.
I write on this board becuase my b/f suffers from depression, anxiety, social anxiety, and agrophobia.
He was been off of work for months with a mysterious illness then they said it was IBS and then found out when he was trying to go back to work he couldn't do to what I mentioned above. A lot of wierd things happen during his attacks He feels many different feeling of pain tingles cold and hot flashes etc. but never anything with his hearing (not to my knowlegde).
Have you seen a doctor for this?
You should ask about withdrawls from the medication you were taking.
My b/f is on paxil cr and they are going to have to up the dosage because it hasn't worked all that well.
(Small improvements) and he is on Ativan for the panic attacks. Paxil can actually cause panic attacks at first.
There are all sort of self help sites out there and therapy. Some peolpe can do it with out the drugs while others need it to get past the fear.
Good luck to you! Please see a doctor tell them your concerns write them down so you don't forget any, and keep us posted!!
God bless you!!
And if you do find out anything about the meds causing this let me know my b/f was on aciphex for acid reflux
note I said was on it so let me know please
You will over come this!!
Keep us posted!!

I had a very similar sleeping situation once, where I work up and felt tingly allover, then i felt my heart beat faster and faster, then my whole body just locked up on me and I remember thinking "god Im going to die" and at that point I just fell back to sleep, and can actually remember falling back to sleep.
I wouldve panicked about it the next day if it wasnt for something I saw on TV. There is a condition like it that some people experience when they have interrupted sleep sometimes. Its quite rare, but what happens is your brain wakes up, but your body doesnt if you get what I mean. And it happens partially, for a few seconds.

I've had similar feelings as you described.
I also have an anxiety/panic disorder and some agoraphobic behavior patterns.
I have migraine headaches, which can also cause very odd sensations.
Have a complete check-up by a Neurologist, so you'll feel more at ease.
Keep us posted!

Bothrops – I have had very similar things happen and I very often get this tingly, very warm sensation in both of my arms that seems to be coming from my head/neck/ shoulders. I say, that I get ‘burning arms’ ‘cos that’s exactly how it feels. I have experienced what you have, during the night. You’re not alone. It can be terrifying.
Boneycork – I’ve had many nights where I wake up in this panic-like state and my body feels like it’s having some kind of episode or attack. It’s an awful feeling and I’ve read some literature that this may be caused by stress, brain impulses or even diet. Gee, so what applies to me, right?
Longell – I too have anxiety/panic disorder and agoraphobic behaviors. I also get very bad migraine headaches that cause very odd sensations.
Headaches are very common with people who suffer from anxiety/depression/panic.
Theses pressures in my head and sensations don’t occur just when I wake or am disturbed at night but when I sit at the computer, when walking, when doing just about anything. I have sinus problems which doctors have claimed this to be related to but sinus meds don’t relieve it.
Foshnizzle – I wish we could find answers.
I agree with seeing a Neurologist. This definitely can’t hurt.
Take care

Wow, that sounds very similar to the mystery illness I've had for about 4 months now, on and off. I KNOW mine isn't anxiety because I actually starting feeling better for about three weeks until I got sick again, and my vertigo came back harder than ever. It landed me in the hospital b/c I was heaving and the room completely flipped upside down for three days. That's what started the illness and it came back. I also have the pressure feeling, and my ear pressure feeling and vertigo have accompanying heart palpitations, tremors, and sweating. I'm trying to get in to see a neurologist, but I have horrible insurance and it doesn't want to cover one. Anyway, I'm getting there. I just got an MRI. I'm also planning on getting extensive allergy testing as I have pretty bad allergies, and I'm going to get bloodowork done. You should do the same. Oh, one of my biggest symtpoms of my illness was nausea, from being motion-sick. Good luck to you http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I hope they find out what's wrong.

I would recommend getting an evaluation by a neurologist.

Snap!
My anxiety kicked of in May 2002 and started with vertifo, dizzyness, lightheaded etc.. Came out of the blue one day although on reflection I was stressed at work and grieving after a close friend died.
My dizzyness was so bad I couldn't leave the house for 4 weeks and my life was messed up for a few months. I won't cover my entire saga with anxiety, lets just say it's been a rollercoaster ride!
Anyway, my anxiety tends to come and go in varying degress, but the dizzyness, heavy feeling and muffled/full feeling in the ears has been one of my worst symtoms. I've probably been pretty good for months until a couple of weeks ago when I had a bit of a relapse. Dizzyness hit hard and my hearing would go really muffled during these periods.
I had a couple of weeks on respiridone and I'm back to no meds (my goal has always been to try and get through this without them).
Anyway, I'm generally feeling OK at the moment, just the odd weird feelings but I try and ignore them.
Positive thinking, deep breathing, tai chi and the gym have helped me I think.
It's an unfortunate state of affairs that society is pushing so many of use over the edge http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

I was able to kick mine: I had been standing in line at the store when a huge wave of nausea hit me like an electric shock. I started having panic-attacks/headaches at work would have to walk out of the building to keep from having a break-down . My Dr. was stumped, I even got an MRI which turned up nothing.
I finally traced it down to post 9-11 stress, too much Excedrin (eating it like candy), too much sugar and alcohol, and a very stressful job.
Once I modified my garbage intake, limited alcohol and sugar, started exercising, and realized I didn't have brain cancer the attacks stopped. I'm convinced diet is a huge factor many people overlook.
