My Dad swallowed for the first time since September 9, 2000! He said he felt the swallow, where before he said he was told he was swallowing but could not tell. He is able to eat baby food pudding and he is thrilled! He has been on a peg tube this whole time and working with speech therapists. Some gave him hope, others acted like they were just passing the time with him. He did his speech exercises every day religiously. That, and time, really have done the trick. He is going in for another swallow evaluation this week. I just wanted to pass this info on to let you know not to give up! His attitude has always been to say, "let's get going, we have work to do!" His left arm is moving slightly but not the fingers...yet! He keeps working at it every day. He is also very thankful for what he does have...and not dwell too much on what he doesn't. Thank you for your concerns from my previous post.

I am so glad that your father was able to swallow. I am also glad that I now have the ability to swallow. At first, I had a hard time swallowing pills, and as a result they had to be crushed and inserted in pudding or jello. Now, I can swallow them whole. By the way, your dad had his stroke 366 days after me. I hope he is doing well.

Thanks, Pooky! He is doing a little better every day. He had oatmeal and a smashed banana for breakfast the other day! This is a miracle! Thank you for your words of encouragement!
