My mother, 73 year old white female, with no history of high blood pressure or stroke related incidents, had a bleeding stroke 6 weeks ago, followed by a seizure before paramedics arrived. Doctor says a tiny calcified artery burst. She was sent home in a matter of days, and has made almost a complete recovery, but her leg hurt and was swollen. Nothing showed up on tests, and a blood clot was ruled out.

Six weeks to the day of the stroke, she went to the hospital due to pain in her lung area. Blood clot in the lung, and tests reveal a blood clot in her leg as well. The doctor who looked at the echocardiogram today said she appears to have a leaky heart valve, and that combined with the stroke/seizure is probably what caused the clot. He seems unconcerned about the leaky valve, and said she won't need surgery. I live in Georgia, she lives in Illinois. Has anyone heard of this happening? Any thoughts or suggestions? She's VERY depressed and I'm trying to get her to get counselling ... Thanks in advance!
