I was curious myself, so did a search on it. It is a birthcontrol device. go to www.nuvaring.com (http://www.nuvaring.com) for information. It isn't available yet in the United States. It said on the site, it would be availble mid 2002.

Actually it is available in the US, you just need to ask your doc for a trial one. My doc didn't give me one cause he kinda laughed when I asked about it. He recommended the birth control patch instead because he said that a lot of men might think it's strange having a woman wearing a ring in their vagina. Go figure. Maybe he's the odd one http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif

I find it horrible that your Dr. would say that a man might have issue w/ the ring. Unprofessional!!!

FYI: my partmer has not mentioned the ring. I asked he said he did not notice. (he's on the larger side)

Do you have problems w/ the patch falling off? I swim a lot.

lascot,
I have not used the patch yet. I am waiting until after I have a scheduled surgery in July on my neck, dont want issues related to the patch that could possibly happen. I will post back after using it!!

I want one of these! Where and how do you get it? I live in a very conservative southern pentacostal town. And, although I love the people to death, theyre not very open minded when it comes to birth control methods.
I cant take pills. Havent been able to since I was 16 - even the simplest of pills like tylenol cause me to vomit all night.
I know this sounds crude, but my fiance and I have bought the largest brand condom we can find and it's still too tight on him so we rarely use those. It's mostly the "pull out" method, which is hard on him. I want one of these! hahaha ;o)

you have to ask your gyno, he can give you a trial for now. When they do become available, you will need a prescription and take it to the pharmacy to be filled. Don't keep using the pull out method, both of my children were conceived using that!!!

I just changed from the pill to the ring. I love the idea of not taking a pill every day. You can go to their website and get a coupon for a free ring with your prescription. It a little more per month ($35 copay) but to me, it's worth it.

how would it work? inserting it, how would that be birth control? wouldnt it just fall out???

Teri it sits up in the vagina, kind of like how a diaphragm will and won't fall out, and over the 3 weeks it's in it will constantly release certain hormones to prevent pregnancy, like the pill does.

I will NEVER remember to take every day! But I am also not goood at sticking things inside me.. GRRR.
Nuvaring has much higher risk of cancer http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif
I wish someone would just force me to use one thing, I hate deciding.
If anyones interested, NEVER USE DEPO PROVERA!

ok 5th week on the patch, and i'm starting to like it better, it's so nice not to have to take a pill every night, i guess i do like it, though i've been hungry non-stop since i've been on it.
