Post Chronic Knee Pain

I am a soldier in Iraq. I was running about 4 months ago when i noticed my right knee started to give me some small pains. Well the next day i ran a few miles and wasnt able to run anymore. The pain became persistant and never went away. Only got worse. Well i went to a doctor and he was sugesting a MRI when i informed him of how on the right side of my knee i get these shooting, burning pains. And that how on the left side of my knee it was painfull too. Also that my knee grinds when i have it elevated on a chair and push on the kneecap. They said that it is arthritis and just plain wear and tear on my knee. My problem is that i never get time off it. I wear over 45 pounds of gear everyday, and drive all day long. I was given a injection of cortisone behind the kneecap, it chased the pain away for about a day. But the pain is back and is catching up to where it was at before i got the injection. I got the injection less then two weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone knows what it might be and what i could do to lessen the pain.

It looks like arthritis, and running will inflame the knee and increase the pain. I have severe arthritis in both knees.

The cortisone will eventualy lose its effectiveness. I take four tablets of generic ibuprofen (800 mg) every five hours. Nothing you take will totally eliminate the pain.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU ARE DOING OVER THERE! I hope you can find some relief from the pain! Might want to ask the doctor about meniscal damage.

You might want to ask the doctor about wearing a sports brace also.

Best wishes!

Wes
