I have been taking VIOXX for quiet sometime and it greatly helped my arthritis. However, I had to discontinue it about 4 days ago due to my elevated blood pressure. Since that time my fingers are throbbing and in constant pain. Does anyone have any suggestions of an over-the-counter med I might buy so I can get some relief?
There are 2 or 3 herbs you might try. Feverfew or Devil's Claw are probably the cheapest to try. If you have no gall bladder or bile duct problems you can try turmeric standardized to 95% curcumin. Curcumin is the active anti-inflammatory. You need to take at least 1200 milligrams of curcumin per day. Turmeric is somewhat expensive in most herb stores. I take the standardized turmeric myself for osteoarthritis in my knees. I limped before I started the turmeric more than 2 years ago, but have not limped any since.
Bob, how long before you noticed any results? Don't know if I can make it the rest of the week without resorting to pain pills. My fingers are throbbing, and it is very difficult to grip anything with my hands.

Georgia:
I was having terrible pain in my hands, fingers, toes, etc. and started taking Bextra. I rarely have bad pain now. Have you tried it? Even though Vioxx raised your BP, it's possible that Bextra won't. I've tried herbs and Glucosamine/Chondroitin without any success. I hope you find some relief.
