Despite what the previous post said, Enbrel can be very effective if used/monitored. It is one of the newest classes of drugs for RA that can actually REVERSE damage done. It's called a bio-DMARSD. It's normally not prescribed until other drugs like Celebrex and Vioxx have been tried without much success. BUT there have been a number of medical studies that have shown that the earlier this new class of drugs is started, the better the results. It's true that there were A LOT of problems with this drug in the beginning, but the treatment has been reformatted and the results have been a complete change!
I know of several people that are on Enbrel therapy and have had a tremendous response. They didn't have a problem with getting supplied, their battles were with insurance to get it covered. Unfortunately, I have Systemic Lupus in addition to RA, so I cannot take these drugs - they raise ANAs which would make my Lupus flare. I'm willing to take the risk to reduce some of my joint pain/damage but my Rheumatologist is not on board...yet.
I'm 31 and recently had a bone scan - the radiologist came back to see me personally because he thought the bday on the scan was wrong- he said there was no way this was the scan of a 31y.o. woman.
