Post weight training

Hi,

I have mild lumbar arthritis. I am 24 years of age and train4-5 times a week, I am 6'' and weigh 217. I dont be in pain when I train but ache the next day. Has anybody any advice on any over the counter drugs I could buy or even any relevant advice.

Hi Micheal weight training is fine but don't over do it.your back pain while only get worse.you should only do pushup,because your body weight is a enough resistance you need.I use to lift first my back went out,than my shoulders.pain pills only work for a day,you're to young to be a cripple.

Hi Mick -

I agree with the other post. Normally with any kind of arthrits, you don't want to do any kind of high impact exercise/training with the affect area/joint. I'm not an expert in weight training, but possibly there are other precautions you could take while lifting. May be worth discussing with your doctor. Sometimes a good all around over the counter pain reliever is Ibuprofen. I use it for all kinds of aches and pains and it usually helps (although I have had to take 3 or 4 at a time!)

Hey...you should be okay, but really "listen" to your body and the warning signs and stop/slow-down/reduce reps/weight when pain kicks in (not necessarilly fatigue/muscle). If fatigue-overall starts...stop too or you'll feel exhausted instead of revitalized after the workout. Also you should check out Aquatic weight training and classes in your area. If they dont offer it...find a gym that does! This will give you a better workout withOUT the pain and fatigue (see aquatic topic submitted). Good luck and get some water shoes to go with the running pair!

Additionally, as far as "drugs"...if over-the-counter anti-inflammatories and tylenol don't work...see your doctor/rheumatologist pronto. They can get you better stuff to use.

Oh, and BTW sliprock6...EVERYBODY is too young to be crippled! YIKES!

Hi,

Thank you to all that replied, I have been to my doctor recently and he said that mild lumbar arthritis is common and is just another way of saying that your back has some wear and tear. Is there a chance that this could lead to a more serios form of arthritis.
