Avoiding additional illness/Staying well
Im interested in knowing if any of you have problems staying well while on medication. Im concerned because the doctor told me that the medicine would bring down my immunity (so my body will stop attacking itself I assume). Are we more prone to catching colds and flus now?
The reason I ask is because my moms boss went to a funeral of a girl who died of bacterial meningitis (which is a strain of Strep Throat virus) and he is having to be vaccinated and take antibiotics for two weeks. He cant be around my mom for 36 hours and my mom is scared because she is a strep throat carrier which means she could have the virus and not know it and pass it along to me (since my immunity is low and we dont know if my case of RA was caused by a Strep Throat virus, which we believe is the case).
So do any of you notice if you get sick more easily while on medication or do you think your odds are the same as everyone else? I dont want to freak out and be a clean freak if I dont have to be. I mean, I wash my hands often and have good personal hygiene but is there anything else I can do?
Mom says the doctor that is treating her boss says that the bacterial meningitis is an airborn variety and that being in a movie theater (where your closed in a room with many strangers from all over) and places like that can be dangerous if someone were to sneeze or cough. I guess people with allergies might be more prone to things like that then.
Any advice would be appreciated!
