ANYONE TAKING REMICADE (INFLIXIMAB) - Arthritis Message Board

Hello, I am writing on behalf of my Father who has severe Rheumatoid Arthritis in nearly all areas. He is suffering badly at the moment as has been offered to go through the assesment to take the new drug Remicade. We have found out info on this from the net. It sounds promising but there is warnings about it that some side effect infections have been fatal. Obviously he is a little concerned at reading this. He would like to know more about it first. He will get an answer as to wether he can have the treatment here in Uk in 3 weeks time. (Only selected people can have it as it costs £1000 per injection!)

So we are looking for anyone who can give us some advise on this.

Is anyone out there actually on this treatment?? if so is it working?? How bad are side effects??

PLEASE can anyone help??????

Hi,

I like your father have RA and had my first infusion of Remicade on Monday.

I was very worried, as your father is ,about the possible side effects of the treatment.

But after speaking to other patients who have had a number of infusions and were doing so well on it,with more than one person saying to me 'I feel like a new person since being on the drug!

I'm 38 years old and have two young children and after a lot of thought have decided that for me the theoretical unknown risks of taking the treatment are worth it.

I'm expecting the second treatment on the 16th September and if you want I'll let you know the outcome!

I had my first dose of Remicade one week ago today. I feel better. The morning stiffness is gone... my writsts don't hurt all day... I hope its the Remicade. I have my second treatment next Monday.
