Which injection is best - Arthritis Message Board

I've pretty much decided to get the series of knee injections for the pain in my knee. Trying to decide which is better sinvisc or hyalgan. My insurance covers both so cost is not an issue. Does anybody have any info on which is better, safer, lasts longer? I will appreciate any info.

I don't have an answer for you, but I am wondering the same thing as to which substance to try next. I can tell you I had almost all of them and haven't noticed much difference. I can tell you I had the new Synvisc that they give in one shot. It was very painful, and I almost passed out when I got it. I have never fainted, and I usually tolerate pain well, so you might want to think twice if they offer you that. Good luck!

I had Ortho-Visc in my right knee last year. I had the three shots. Unfortunately, they didn't work for me at all. I am bone-on bone from years of tennis. I was hoping for a good result, as a lot of people have benefitted. The shots are a bit uncomfortable, but not at all unmanageable. Just have them spray the numbing spray beforehand...no biggie.

I had both Hyalgan and Synvisc(as 3 shots) but not the newer Euflexa. I had a reaction so bad to Synvisc that I had to leave our vacation early and go home to get it repeatedly drained out and cortisone put in.

Hyalgan worked quite well but when I had it, it meant 5 shots. My doc insists on draining a knee when doing these injections and others just put it in. A lot of the pain has to do with technique and whether or not they drain it first(hurts more). Painful but helped.

However, I had to have both knees replaced later the same year so it did nothing to delay that.

I had the Euflexxa injections (series of 3) on both knees last year (June). The results were nothing short of amazing for me. My pain doc uses sedation so I never felt any type of discomfort. I noticed significant improvement after the second shots, and after the third in the series was able to go back to my walking routine of 1-2 miles a day. It's been 11 months since the injections, and just this past month my left knee has become stiff and painful with swelling daily and the right knee has morning stiffness returning. I had my monthly PM appointment this week and we decided that it's time again for the injections. I'm really looking forward to getting them as the reults were remarkable. I was originally told they would/could last anywhere from 6-18 months and it seems reasonable that I was able to get just shy of 12 months of relief.

Now if they could just find a way of using them on my spine, I'd be able to resume my pre CP days!

I certainly would encourage you to speak with your doctor about these injections.
