Not necessarily remission, for OA. The degeneration of tissue can be slowed but I don't believe they have found a cure for OA. It is the slow dissolution of the cartilage tissue between joints that causes the inflammation and subsequent bony buildup of those joints. There is no cure for this at this time. There are, however, several therapeutic treatments that can help in the discomfort and perhaps slow the degeneration such as NSAI's, hot and cold treatment packs and stress relief.
There are other arthritic diseases, ie, Reiter's Syndrome or Reactive Arthritis, that do have remissive periods. Perhaps you were hearing about one of these.
