treatment for knee pain - Arthritis Message Board

Too young to have a total knee surgery. I'm looking for an alternative. (I don't think my knee is bad enough for surgery.) Been on nsaids and dont' want steroid injections. I've heard of injections that can help. One is synvisc, another is hyalgan. Any info on whether these work? For how long? Cost? I would appreciate any feedback. I'm also asking around and will post again if I get new info. Thanks.

The injections you mention are the same thing basically.

Usual course is 3 treatments per knee - I recall
$600.00 being the price tag for 3 shots

Get on Glucosamine Sulfate - a reputable brand

Synvisc did not help at all for me. Cost was $345.00 for 3 shots plus $45 for the DR to do it. Gluclosamine may help a bit but vioxx or celebrex really do the trick for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I've pretty much decided to get the injections. My insurance covers both. Now all I have to do is decide which one. Any more info on which is better? Hyalgan/Sinvisc?

About 6 years ago I got a shot in one of my knees. At the time I didn't think to ask what it was,but so far so good. It has helped a lot and I'm really glad I had it done and I will probably have it done to my other knee now as it's giving me problems now.
