Post Chondromalacia of the patella & arthritis

Hi,

In August 2001, I was a pedestrian struck and injured by a car while crossing the street on a crosswalk. I suffered multiple injuries, especially to my left knee.

In January 2002, I had my 1st arthroscopic knee surgery, during which it was discovered that I had grade 2 chondromalacia of the patella, among other injuries or problems.

What is the difference between chondromalacia and arthritis? Does chondromalacia cause arthritis or is it the other way around? What can I do to treat or cure chondromalacia?

Thanks.

Chondromalacia is softening of the cartilage under the kneecap, whereas arthritis affects the joints. My Dr. said they're similar though. Building up the quads with various types of leg lifts is supposed to help. I hope you find some relief.
