Re: ankylosing spondylitis and Growth Hormone
Hi iam 30 yrs old and have had AS for the last 9 yrs. When i was ten i was given growth hormone which i injected for 7 yrs, i dont know if this affected/caused my AS but i never had the (HB?) gene marker that 95% of people have when they are diagnosed.
All i say is take lots of Glucosamine, MSM, Chondrotin, Bromelain and lyprinol - all nutritional supplements which will help with the AS. they are not cures and unfortunatley you will prob need help with NSAID's but bewarned NSAID's are not good for you long term.
may i suggest lots of exercise, preferably swimming and lots of stretching, morning and night.
lastly, DIET - there is no hard proof by scientists on this one because it is diff for everyone one, but having trawled the internet, you hear doctors and nutritionists talk about low fat, low sugar and low strach diets - i have tried it and believe me it works - personally i find it hard to maintain all the time, because i love food so much. It is worth it though trust me. The anti-inflam drugs doctors prescribe are NOT good for the gut, and heart long term.
My sister is a GP so i have had a great deal of support and knowledge handed to me,
i hope this helps. Good luck, you can prevent deteriotation!
