methotrexate | How much will it affect your life..
I just given methotrexate for my PA, and it seems like my psoriasis isnt that bad. My arms are some what sowellen and a bit red. It doesnt hard to use my hands but i'm afarid in the near fear that i will lose my ability to use my hands. I'm into arts and crafts and use my hands alot. My question is, how much will methotrexate affect my life? The list of side affect seems to be forever, i'm most worried about losing my hair on meth. Would people who are taking or took methotrexate tell me their experiences.

I'm also starting on mtx (but for RA) and i too am very anxious but my cousin and my yoga instructor, both who have PA have had amazing results on the skin and the joints after mtx kicked in so be positive. The hair dropping out is unlikely i'm told as my dose of 7.5 mg per week is a mere fraction (1/100) of the cancer dosage. And if it does start to happen...i'll go off straight off it and try yet another option. Might sound petty to some but how you feel about yourself has a huge bearing on how well you manage pain and the negative emotions that go with it. Something will be right for us i'm sure. My wish is to be reasonably pain free but with regained energy...and if all that is possible with a lower appetite, dropping a dress size could be the bonus outcome. Goodluck!
(I assume your specialist has told you that folic acid supplements will reduce the side effects too.)
Thank you so much for posting. I havent experience any side effect yet except for alittle upset stomach. My once a week doses is 10mg on friday with 5mg of folic acid on saturday, sunday and monday.
I hope you dont mind a personal question, are you leading a normal life on Meth? When are the side effect usually most noticable?

It has affected my life in nothing but positive ways. I guess I'm lucky, the worst I ever had was some stomach upset in the very beginning and now that doesn't even bother me. I've been on it about 5 years with no liver, kidney, or other damage - have all my hair - no infections.
Hearing that you lead a normal life makes me very happy. My fear of Meth is starting to decease. Thank you both for your postes and best of luck to you in the future.
I appreciate your good news story too VeggieQ. I think i'm procrastinating about taking my first dose of mtx but i'm feeling much more reassured now...so here goes. All the best Lovenhope. Guess your code name is the best policy.
