Hi, This is my first time posting, but I have been reading for a while, and find these boards very informative. I saw my doctor about a month ago for knee pain, and he dismissed it, saying it was just a flare-up of arthritis, and to take ibuprofen. The pain has persisted, and I now also have hip and ankle pain on that side (the right side). I do have lower back problems and have had sciatica several times, but that has always been on the left side. Also, it is my understanding that sciatic pain is usually down the back of the leg, while my present pain is mainly in the front. Anyone ever had anything similar? Any thoughts? Thank you.
It's very possible you have OA in your knee. This can throw off your walking gait, which in turn can lead to increased pain in the hip, ankle, and low back.
If ibuprofen isn't helping, it's time to insist that your physician refer you to a specialist. If he won't do it, find another doctor.
Good luck!
Carolan

Hi Carolan, Thanks for the reply. I am really beginning to believe that it must be arthritis. I always thought it was just an old wive's tale, but I have really noticed an increase in the knee pain when the weather is bad. I think I will give it a little while, and return to the doctor (if only to get a referral to a specialist), if there isn't some improvement soon. Take Care, Nan
You all need to have a qualified Doctor check your alignment. When your frame is out of line the joints are out of line, and they then wear abnormally, and so you get arthritis. Simple arch supports can help. As we get older our feet can get really messed up. I developed flat feet, which caused my ankles to turn inward. As I stated elsewhere, I have arthritis in the hip (due to childhood injury). Glucosamine and flax oil helped tremendously, but then I started useing arch supports, and that has helped noticably.
