False Positive Pediatric ANA test?
My 4 year old son had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic last friday. He developed hives from his head to his toes. His hands and feet were horribly swollen also. His feet being the worse. So much so that he refused to walk. It hurt him that bad. After several attempts to relieve his discomfort (Benadryl, other antihistamines), they finally gave him a steroid that REALLY worked. In addition to that he had an ANA test that came back positive. I have to follow up Tuesday with his doctor, but couldn't his allergic reaction alter the test, or the current medication he was on alter it also? Anyone with experience to this? I'm really freaking out here and would appreciate all advice! And if the test is truly positive what does this mean really, and what happens from here?
Thanks,
Tami
