Cool Just diagnosed

Early in March I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee. The doctor removed some bone fragments, scar tissue and trimmed the cartilage. At my post op visit he told me I have Stage IV arthritis.

So what does he mean by Stage IV - is there 30 stages, 90 stages or 5 stages?

I can't find any information anywhere on this.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Just diagnosed

If you have knee osteoarthritis, the most common form of knee arthritis, your doctor could be using the Kellgren and Lawrence scale. This grading scheme assesses radiographical progression of osteoarthritis based on joint space width and osteophyte formation. It starts off with Grade 0 (normal knee joint) and goes to Grade 4 (no joint space, bone end deformity, changes in joint shape).
