Need advice re Sulfasalazine for PA - Arthritis Message Board

Hi

Is anyone out there taking Sulfasalazine? I just need to know whether it has helped anyone. It makes me feel sick, and tired ( today I feel exhausted), and it hasn't done anything for the PA. However, I've only been taking it for 3 weeks and the rheumy says it takes about 6 weeks to work.

I just need some uplifting. The PA affects just about every joint in my body, but it is worst in my back, wrists and ankles right now.

Let me know even if Sulfasalazine didn't help you but something else did - I feel like I am running out of options!

hi, ive been taking sulfasalazin for six weeks now and i think it may be helping. the ra doc also has me on preds and i think that helps more than anything. i take 30 mg a day now and 3000mg of sulfa. at first my ra would flare every 2 or 3 days and i thought i had carpal tunnel. then it started to progress. the preds work really well but make me tweak. my rheumy said if the sulfa doesnt seem to be my drug that they will try methotrexate. i hear that stuff is toxic. a chemo pill more or less. good luck. if you need someone to talk to im here
