Has anyone heard of a 24 year old starting to get arthrtis? I've always been extremely active since about 4 years old. I roller skated ( professionally) for 10 years before i got my first horse and have been doing that for the past 10 years. Both my knees are giving me problems.. but mostly the right when it comes to pain. It constantly feels like it's going to "pop".. I have sharp pain inside the knee..it cracks when i bend it and if you put your hand on it you can feel it crack and pop. If i sit cross legged (indian style?) for too long and go to straighten my knee im in severe pain for quite a while. It's been like this for a few years now.. but it's getting worse.
I asked my PCP to check it out but he wasnt worried about it.
I posted on the hip/knee page.. but I thought I'd cover all bases by asking all of the arthritis veterans as well. Hope someone and shed some light on this problem for me.
take care... hope you all are feeling well.
Arthritis can set in at any age, it isn't an "old persons" disease. My OA started at age 10. OA is caused by wear and tear of the joints over the years or by damage to the joints.
Any pain or swelling is not normal and is a sign of a problem and it should be looked at by an orthopeadic surgeron since your PCP doesn't seem to care about it much. I do not agree with your PCP. Cracking sounds can be caused by damaged cartilage or problems with the muscles, ligaments or tendons.
the strange thing is that there is no swelling. THere really never has been over the years. I do have some pretty boney knees though. Imagine a little girl wiith skinny legs and boney knees. ( sort of silly looking)
I've always had these knees... lucky me
