For the last 3 months or so I started experiencing soreness in my shoulders and upper arms. Well it got worse but I just thought it was from the job that I do. I finally went to the Docs because the pain got so bad at night I couldnt sleep. Its almost as if they freeze up or something. I got put on percocet and had xrays which came back normal. Im thinking tendonitis? Anyone else ever experience this?
Hi, I've had pain in my arms & shoulders and neck, though. I am pretty sure what I get are severe muscle spasms. It usually affects my left side and feels as if my shoulder is being pushed forward or something and I can't pull it back. I've had times where I couldnt even push it flat to the floor. And my pain also caused me sleep problems big time. I ended up getting a horse shoe shaped cervical pillow and found it helped alot to let me sleep without as much pain. So yours could be tendonitis, bursitis, muscle spasms or any host of other things.
On what area was the x-ray done? If the pain doesnt go away or gets worse over time, then you should probably have an MRI done b/c x-rays pretty much only show the bone, not the soft tisses; MRI's can show soft tissue plus many things that x-ray can't.
Have you have any neck pain at all? If so, it's possible you might have something going on in there that's radiating to your shoulders and/or arms.
FOr starters, you might want to using a moist heating pad over the painful area. At least for me, when I get spasms, I find the moist heat helps alot (but only while the heat is over the area).
I have no problems with my neck at all. At first I thought I pulled my bicep muscles in my left arm but over time when the other one started up....I had xrays done on both shoulders, neck and spine. The pain is exactly in the same spot in both arms and shoulders, very weird.....I can handle it during the day but Im becoming sleep deprived. I reach for my blanket or pillow and BAM....I have a sunburny feeling on the skin over the area on both sides too. The pain meds help a bit but not really...not even worth taking since they make me like Im constantly starving to death!
Thanks for a reply. And I can lift alot more weight than that so Im sure thats not the problem. I see the Doctor in a month. He has me on some anti inflammotory medicine that he says takes awhile to work. At night and in the morning I have the hardest time lifting my arms away from my body. Or back...like putting on or taking off my robe. I don't know if I'll last a month in seeing him.
I do have major pain in my shoulders, neck and elbows. I also have RA, Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis in my spine, shoulders, elbows Ect. I'm eat up with it. My osteo arthritis did not show up in an x-ray, only on a MRI. I feel like I have a long dagger stuck into the joint of my shoulders too when it flairs up, pain meds and sleeping pills do nothing when this happens. I usually go 48 hours with no sleep and finally pass out the 3rd night, but still don't feel rested. I rotate a hot pad and ice packs, but I use them wrong and I know it. I put the ice on until it totally numbs the pain spot, I do place a thin hand towel between my skin and the ice pack. The only way I get true relief is to schedule another cortizone shot , they only last about 3 months for me and I can't have but 3 a year my Pain doc says. I'm in a flair up again right now, and it's only been 2 months since I had the last one. I can't lift my arms as high as my shoulders and I cannot straighten my left arm. Hopefully you just have bursitis or tendonitits.
