Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

Hello all I have rheumatoid arthritis. I have been looking for some kind of work I can do but so far have come up really short. I searched on line but all I seem to come up with are home biz scams.

I have a good lead for some part time work putting showcases together but that will only be a couple of nights a week and thats not going to keep my bills paid. Please post your idea. I need some people to brainstorm with.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

I haven't been officially diagnosed with RA, but I have some of the symptoms and I'm afraid that I won't be able to find work if I tell potential employers my problems. I do have to see a Rheumatologist about my symptoms, and some of my blood work showed an elevated sed rate, high c reactive protein, and another that I forget right now. Like tech1pc, I need advice on how to continue working. Thanks.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

Well, the best thing I can come up with is something in retail, that doesn't involve a lot of movement with my hands... at least not too much. If anyone can come up with any other ideas, feel free to post them here.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

Retail Sales might be the ticket, What ever you do try to get it set up before you are diagnosed. It is very hard to find a job after you have been diagnosed with RA. I have been posting resumes for about 6 months. I have 23 years experience in Inventory and loss control but no one wants to hire me after they find out I have RA.
Good Luck.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

Actually it's illegal if someone doesn't hire you because of a health problem or illness. You're not required to tell any employer that you have a chronic illness, even if they ask specifically.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

It may be illegal but that still doesn't matter. I have never had a problem finding work in my life, now suddenly my 23 years of experience doesn't mean anything. I am just suggesting you position yourself for a job while you still have time.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

I was just dx'ed with RA about 2 weeks ago and I feel the pain in my hands and wrists is already getting worse. If that isn't bad enough, I have no insurance and can't afford to see a Rheumatologist, so I really dont' know what to do or where to turn. I already feel like my life is over

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

I don't have insurance either, I was lucky. I got involved in a drug study for rheumatoid arthritis. you should check around and see if you can find anything like that. Here it is called coastal clinical research. try looking in the phone book for rheumatologist and ask them who is conduction the study in your area.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatoid Arthritis

As quirky as it sounds and I know it makes most people cringe, but I have arthritis in my back, which limits me, I did work retail, but they required even cashiers to sign that if needed they could lift 50 lbs .
I finally ended up do "appointment setting" otherwise known as telemarketing, (there's the cringe )...It works for me, the computer does all the work, the hours are doable, no lifting and it pays the bills.

Just a thought.

Re: Looking for work with Rheumatiod Arthritis

I have tried to check into that but cant seem to find out who to talk to. If you go on any of the job search sites and put in Telemarketer or telecommuter you get flooded with Home based business scams. I am not cringing either like you if it pays the bill I will do it. I hate having my bills behind. If you have an idea where to start looking please let me know.
