Pain When I Move My Left Thumb

All of a sudden as of tonight, my left thumb hurts really bad when I try to bend it. I took some Advil a little while ago, but I still can't bend it. I have osteoarthritis in other parts of my body and don't know if this is the same thing. Is there anything I can do at home for pain relief? Thanks in advance for ideas/suggestions. Sue

It could be. I am having problems with both of my thumbs. I find ice can help. I assume you didn't sprain or injure it?

Hi, I've been having increasing pain in left thumb area since last summer. After number xrays by diff specialist, MRI, EMG, I hit upon a good hand specialist orth who told me simply osteoarthritis of thumb joint. can use rubs, warm heat, tylenol etc BUT dvised me to also go to hand therapist and have a splint made, which I just did...Hopefully all that will ease it if not injections are the next step....
See a specialist....the right one....
