Re: Arthritis?

Hi, I'm sorry you're suffering through that pain. To answer your question, yes, it's possible it can be some form of arthritis. Don't get too worried about RA yet, though, as there are over 100 different kinds of arthritis, and some of them are actually caused by some other condition. For example, thyroid disorders can cause arthritis symptoms, as can RA and many other autoimmune diseases. Osteoarthritis can actually cause some inflammation as well. No matter which type, any of them can be quite painful. I've had inflammation and pain in many diffferent joints over the years, including my spine. I was suspected of having ankylosing spondylitis, but have been diagnosed with spinal OA. I, too, had spinal stenosis in my lumbar area. I also have hip OA and severe arthritis that completely damaged my right ankle joiint, though I don't know what that was from. I also have Lupus arthritis and possibly Fibromyalgia (which can cause muscle pains).

What I would suggest, especially if it's lasting a long time and/or getting worse, is to see a Rheumatologist, if possible. A rheum specializes in arthritic disorders and conditions. They can do all sorts of blood tests to see if any results correlate with any specific arthritic and/or autoimmune disease, like RA. If nothing else, they can have you try different medications (usually anti-inflammatories) to see if it reduces the inflammation and gives you any pain relief. If the inflammation is real bad, they might even give you prednisone.

Thumbs up Re: Arthritis?

Tjl

I agree with Baybreeze's post. It would be a good idea to see your dr. and find out for sure what is causing your symtoms. Take care.

Re: Arthritis?

HI
Thanks for your replies.

I went to my GP today and she sent me for a series of blood work, including for RA. That is the first thing she mentioned to me. She said my symptoms along with the swelling I am having is classic RA.

I should get my results in 3 days and she told me she wants me to see a Ruhmatologist.

I hurt. My fingers are all swollen, I feel like crap !!

This is miserable

How are you guys feeling? What is the treatment for RA if that is what I am dealing with?

Re: Arthritis?

Hi all,

My blood work from my GP all came back fine. RA was normal no Lyme..so on.

She till wants me to see a Ruhmatologist so I have an appontment on July 1st. I also so my specialist that I dealt with my neck issues and they are doing a EMG on me tomoroww just to rule out nerve damage problems again. They also said I need to see a Ruhmatologist. They think it could be arthristis with possible carple trunnel. They just want to make sure it is not comming from my neck again.

I still have pain but it is better then before....THANK GOD This does tend to go in spurts. It gets realsevere sometimes. I have been taking Advil when neeeded. It helps better then Aleeve..Aleeve didn't A-leave anything. At least the Advil helped a little.

Re: Arthritis?

Hi, chances are, if you get electric, shock-like pain, it's probably nerve pain; however, it could be nerve compression in your hand somewhere or it could be stemming from the cervical spine.

I get terrible nerve pains in my legs and feet, which I know are from spine issues; however, on occassion, I've gotten what almost seems like nerve pains in some of my fingers. Some months ago, I suddenly had bad pain in some fingers and it even woke me up from sleep; it seemed to be more near my joint areas, though and wasn't quite the same as what I feel in my lower body; I went to my Rheum about it & all he said was he didnt see any swelling around my finger joints.

HOwever, I also get hand cramps & spasms, bad neck pain & spasms, sometimes it radiates in my left shoulder. Lately, also, I've noticed when I start turning my neck to either side, I feel a dull pain going down my arm. If i turn my neck to the right, I feel this pain in my right arm & vice versa. I have never had my neck MRI'd, but I just suspect I might have something similiar going on there as I had in my lumbar spine. One other I noticed, is i've been getting pins & needles in my hands quite often. I'm still getting them even tho I'm on Lyrica (but I still get it in my feet, too...but on this med it's not as bad as it was while not on this drug).

But even if you don't have any of these other kinds of symptoms, it's still a possibilty it might be neck related. The doc might check your carpal tunnel area first..but if nothing wrong is found there, you should probably get an MRI of your cervical spine.

Re: Arthritis?

Thanks so much for the reply.

I had an EMG done today from my neck down into my hands. There is some Craple Tunel in the right hand, but they said that is not causing the welling that I have and the pain in my joints. They did say I have to see a Rhumatologist. They belive it is arthrtis. They said they want a report from the rhumatologist.
