I will be having finger joint fusion on two fingers (the pointer and middle fingers) at the outermost joints. I can have them fused with a slight bend at the joint or straight. Any recommendations?
it really depends on you and the doctor. i had four fingers on each hand done, on the middle joint. out of 8 fingers only 3 came out straight. the doctor said the others lost circulation and he had to slightly bend them. i never got full motion back. however i did get the most motion back on the fingers that were straighten completely.
well whichever you choose good luck.
i'm just starting to do a little reading about finger joint fusion. i have been done medical transcription for 15 years, and altho hardly any of my doctors want to say that this has contributed to the incredibly swollen DIP joints of my fingers, i still say it's the reason. i'm interested in hearing from anyone who has had this procedure. i just had steroid injections in my left hand to break up inflammation in the palm of my hand, it did seem to do a pretty good job of it with the trigger finger problem, but the swelling of the joints is so gruesome looking, especially the pointer and middle fingers. if surgery is performed, does the surgery eliminate some of the swollen look of the finger? the physician's assistant who did the injections last week said the doctor goes in and scrapes away some of the excess bony formation and fuses the joint. is it strange looking? are you able to function? i like to cook. would i still be able to do these things? i'm looking for anyone's opinion on this. thanks.
