Meloxicam (Mobic)

Hi all-

Finding my arthritis in my back is getting harder and harder to handle while sleeping so went to the doc. He prescribed Meloxicam. It does seem to take the edge off so I can get thru the night better but wake up in the morning pretty sore still. Has anybody else had any luck with Meloxicam? I quite often have more pain in ankles and knees during the day but am not sure what to take then. I hold off as much as I can and then use Tylenol when I can't take it anymore. Do you think I should be trying a different drug to see if it works better or is this pretty much it? I take 15 mg before I go to sleep each night. I thought at one time it wasn't helping much but then I stopped taking it while I had the flu and felt much worse so it must be working more than I thought. Thanks for any suggestions.
Martha

Re: Meloxicam (Mobic)

Hi Martha,
I've been taking meloxicam for about three months now. At first I took it when I needed it. Then I was told to take one in the morning and one before bed. I take 7.5 mg each time.

I was going to have a knee replacement in February, but I believe the meloxicam has helped enough with my pain that I've been able to postpone the surgery.

Since I'm supposed to take meloxicam with food and I don't eat until around 9:00 a.m., I've been taking one Ultracet when I wake up. That gives me the pain relief I need to get to breakfast.

I'm also taking Elavil before bed and 60 mg of Cymbalta which are also supposed to help with pain.

Re: Meloxicam (Mobic)

Hi Martha,
I've taken Meloxicam for well over a year and prior to that Celebrex, and before that Bextra, and before that Vioxx. Started on Vioxx in 1999 for torn Plantar fasciitis. They all work better than Advil (motrin) and much better than tylenol. Down side is that they can cause some blood pressure issues like all NASIDs and you should only take them when you need them. I take 7.5MG in the mornings when I wake up and have arthritis pain or sore joints. It, like Celebrex is truly a miracle drug. Be very causious if you have any heart or corinary problems though. Otherwise they should work great for you.
I'm a 64 (almost 65) year old male and very active physcially so i suffer from a lot of joint pain but this is the magic pill to handle it.
Good luck,
Jack

Re: Meloxicam (Mobic)

I've been on it for some time and it works well for me - not as well as Vioxx did but better than Tylenol or Aleve (I can't take Advil or Celebrex). I have arthritis in both big toe joints and lower back issues and I can jog and dance and wear heels as long as I take it every day. No blood pressure issues with it for me.

Re: Meloxicam (Mobic)

I take 7.5 mg twice a day. Once in the am and another with dinner. Works for me.

Re: Meloxicam (Mobic)

I tried Mobic a long time ago and it didn't work for me. Bextra worked great. I now take Celebrex 400 mgs. in the am. It works well for me. I have arthritis in many of my joints. I was considering hand surgery til I started taking Celebrex. Before starting it, I couldn't write with my left hand anymore, couldn't turn a key in the lock or open jars or bottles, etc. I wish you well.

Re: Meloxicam (Mobic)

what's really strange but awesome is that after all these years of using drugs, I hardly ever have to take them now. It's like the arthritis kind of healeld itself. I too looked at the operation where they scrap all the arthritis out of the joints but the down time was too long and too painful so I stayed on Vioxx/bextra/Celebrex (200mg) and finally Mobic. I now only take them when needed and that is maybe once a month or so--btw, great for a hangover-LOL!

Re: Meloxicam (Mobic)

I've been taking meloxicam for only one week, along with sulfasedazine (sp??) I have not noticed any improvements yet,.. Before these two I took arthrotec for 3 wks, I didn't think it did anything until I started these two meds, and my pain has been worse. Doc said it takes tme to build up in your system!!???

I was very impatient with my meds, too. But I did commit to waiting for two weeks before judging the pill. And it now works. I take it twice a day: once in the morning, once before bed. And I'm not struggling with pain anymore.

I don't know what the sulfasedazine is, but I did take Arthrotec for a while. It upset my stomach when it was supposed to protect it!
