Meloxicam 7.5 mg for Lower back Pain/Arthritis

I've been taking Meloxicam 7.5 mg. for the past six months, first starting one tab per day and now I'm on two - three tabs per day.

My lower back pain/arthritis around waist-line getting stiff and often pain because weather getting chilly as days go by. Then, I increased to three(3) tabs per day from this Monday. However, it's still not really helping as feeling 'stiffness' along with 'pain.' Particularly during sleep around 4:30 a.m. that waking me up quite early due to discomfort of pain and stiffness around waist-line on the back, although I want to get up around 7:00 a.m.

I just wonder whether I should increase from 3 tabs to 4 tabs per day? Or, I ask my GP for another form of med.?

Thanks for any help on this in advance.

Re: Meloxicam 7.5 mg for Lower back Pain/Arthritis

I would suggest another line of attack. Go see an arthritis specialist called a rheumatologist. You really need to know what is wrong...not just that you have back pain. Is it from degenerative disk disease or herniated disks or arthritis of the spine and if it's arthritis of the spine, which kind...there is more than 1. One form can attack and really destroy the spine and needs aggressive treatment while good old osteoarthritis, the aging arthritis, needs long term management with anti-inflammatories but adding muscle relaxers can really help, as can certain kinds of anti-depressants that help to modify the pain response form the brain.

So just going blindly on "I have back pain" is not enough info. You need to know what is causing it so you can get maximum relief and management.

As one with 6 fused disks and going to see if they have to fuse 5 more next week, I know whereof I speak! Get good care early and you won't regret it.
