Aspergers and ADHD close cousins
I've long suspected that I grew up with ADHD. I made the mistake of talking to my sister who didn't care and just saw it as something strange. Later, I learned about Aspergers and suspected that too. I went to see a specialist, and she said the symptoms of Aspergers and ADHD are similar in so many ways, there is often a fine line between the two. This means it is often difficult to make a distinction between the two. I know they each definitely have their own characteristics. I believe I have both. Anyway, she got mad at me because I was late for my appointment. I told her I suspected I had ADHD. People with ADHD are often late...duh. She said she was a specialist in Aspergers and ADHD, but I don't believe it. Had she been a specialist, she would have understood and anticipated that I would be late. She was supposed to help me be on time, not give me attitude. Adults with ADHD don't get excused. People just think we are rude, lazy, and inconsiderate. I learned to leave 2 hours early when it's very important to be on time, but sometimes I don't get out the door on time because I always get distracted with something or another. I might wake up at 5:00 A.M. with 4 hours to get ready and arrive someplace, but end up leaving 15 minutes before I'm supposed to be there. Doctors tend to be the least merciful. When I'm late, I'm putting them behind schedule. When they're already behind schedule, they expect me to be merciful. They ought to just tell me my appointment is 15 minutes later than it really is. That way I'll be on time.
