Asperger syndrome and testosterone - Asperger's Syndrome Message Board

1 year ago, I read in a magazine that people with AS possibly have this syndrom because of very much testosterone in the brain when they is a embryo. So this possibly means that people with AS have more testosterone than other boys the whole life, or only that people with AS thinks more masculine than others? Any comments? Anyone here who have read something like this?

I have read this not just with Asperger's but also in connection with autism, but the theory has so far not been proven.

Hans Asperger himself mentioned that he thought autism was just "extreme male thinking", although whether or not that is true is disputable.

But do you think it is because people with Asperger have more testosterone than others, or do you think it is other a other reason?

I didn't think it referred to testosterone in the person, but rather to too much testosterone during fetal development (seeing as though in most cases autism is something you are born with, not something you gradually get during puberty (when hormones kick in), as in a masculinisation of the brain.

Whether or not this is true I can't tell, since there has been no conclusive proof of this theory AFAIK.
