Successful life with Asperger's?? - Asperger's Syndrome Message Board

I know someone with Asperger's that wants to become a Doctor. He is pretty high-functioning (he cares about people, dose good in school, etc..), but I dont know if Asperger's can ruin his ambitions. Do you guys think Asperger's can prevent him from becoming a good doctor? Is there hope for his dream?

Yes, there is hope for his dream! My oldest daughter has AS and her teacher from last year and I became great friends because she has a son with AS. I am happy to say that he graduated from med school last month and is on his way to being a pedatrician!

Wow!!! Thats great...It is so wonderful to hear of success stories. I also have to give your friend much credit for a job well done. Good luck to you and your family and especially to our new upcoming pediatrician!!

Thanks ~airforcewife~! thats good to know! i guess nobody can be held back from their dreams because of mental illness. THERE IS HOPE FOR EVERYONE!
