| daughter with aspergers
Hello. I am new to this board and am looking for help/info about aspergers. My daughter, age 6, had an appt. with a dev. ped. on friday. I brought all of her evals. that have been done on her, including her IQ score. I have been to many, many appts. with specialists for her. They have all said the same thing, she meets all criteria for aspergers but they wouldn't give the diagnosis. You can imagine my frustration at this because then she is not getting the services she needs. She has sensory processing disorder with sensory defensiveness. She is classified in school because of it, but she is currently only receiving O.T. once a week for 30 min. and takes the special ed. bus.
The dev. ped. said on friday that all of her evals. obviously show aspergers including her IQ score. She scored above average on the IQ test but below average on the verbal score. There is an 18 point difference and he said that she has a non-verbal learning disability that is characteristic of aspergers. He wants her in a social skill class through the school. I think my husband and I are going to have a big fight on our hands (again!) with the school to get her more special services. I am calling the dev. ped. back and telling him to make sure that aspergers is in his report so that we have more to back us up. If anyone has any advice for us dealing with the school, or any other special services she would benefit from, I would love to hear it. For three years, I have tried to get her help, knowing there was a problem so this has been going on too long. I will post a new topic describing my daughter and her issues. Thank you for reading this far, I didn't mean to make my post this long.
