Specialist visit#2

I just wanted to let you all know that we went for our two week visit yesterday. The Advair/Singular combination seems to be working. My daughters peak flow numbers seem to have leveled out to a more consistant number rather than going from 150 to 115........she is pretty steady around 150. We have set her zones.....She was put on an antibiotic because her doc felt she could have a sinus infection(said her nose was very red/irritated) He said we have made great strides in calming her airways and he didn't want to see them irritated again.......so we took a preventative measure......amoxil for 14 days........

Her pulmonary function tests from last time were good to begin with(even before a bronchodilator) The "before" percentages were 81% and 88%(I can't remember which number was upper/lower airways) and the "after numbers were 95% and 99% so he said it was clinically reversable airway disease...... I am wondering if she REALLY needs all these meds since 89% is quite high?

I'm glad you're daughter is doing so much better. A common mistake among asthmatics (and/or their loved ones) is to stop taking the meds once they return to normal, when it is actually the meds that are keeping them normal. Most people's asthma can be well controlled with the program your daughter's specialist recommended. I would not stop giving her the meds without consulting him.

I think that the numbers are looking a lot better because of the medication she's on. The side effects from her medications are really low. Just make sure she gets a calcium chew everyday (they even make them chocolate flavored). The Advair may be controlling the inflammation in her lungs and keeping her feeling better.
