I had asthma as a child and teenager, but seldom as an adult except around fumes or some kind or with a URI. The other day I was walking my dog in very cold (single digit temps) weather, forcing myself to keep going. After I came in, I had this weird feeling, like there was a spasm in my bronchiol tubes making it hard to breathe. It also felt like there was a robe tied under my arms, suspending me and somewhat cutting off circulation to my arms. It wasn't really pain, just this weird feeling. I had some cough syrup with codeine and I took some of that because I couldn't think of anything else to do. I sat in a recliner (but upright, I couldn't lean back and breathe) and just tried to relax and breathe, and it passed. Breathing felt a little uncomfortable the rest of the evening though. Then last night, it happened again, only it had been several hours since I'd walked the dog, and it wasn't nearly as cold out. I had just been tugging on a toy with my dog, while talking on the phone, but that was the only activity I could think of. I would think it could be heart related, but about a month ago, I had a stress test and echocardiagram, which were normal. I'm going to be having back surgery soon, and I guess it could be related to that, but I'm not sure how. I'll try to get an app't with my internist tomorrow (she's not in today and will only be half day tomorrow) or next week, but she doesn't do well with "feels like" descriptions. I just wondered if this sounds familiar or makes sense to any of you.
