today, I was at school and there was a fire just down the street. I sat there inhailing smoke for about 3 hours (coughing) and there was nothing I could do because they wouldn't dismiss us. Now, I am still coughing...but could there be later, more severe effects from the smoke? I don't usually get off that eaisly with hard core smoke and I am scared that I am going to take a turn for the worse

If you are that worried, call your doc and see if s/he can see you. He may up your medications to get you over the beginning of the hump. If you catch a flare before it hits the top, it's easier to stop. Good luck!

did some light running with out meds (stupid i know) but i took a turn for the worse...but is there such a thing as wheezing when inhailing? because that is wh at i seem to be experiencing.

Wheezing from inhaling is usually called stridor. It doesn't usually happen in your lungs, but more like you larynx. People with VCD usually have a stridorous problem. Wheezing for most asthmatics is on the exhalation. Why exhalation? Well, in asthma the air gets trapped in the lungs when they constrict and it is full of carbon dioxide. This is called air trapping. Because this carbon-dioxide-ladened air is still sitting there, you can't get so much air in. When you try to force out the bad air, the wheezing occurs.

I've wheezed on the inhale before when I had pneumonia and I was on codeine..(apparently i'm allergic to it=( ), but I couldn't cough although my lungs were filled with mucus..so thats when that happened to me. I rarely ever wheeze, I only wheeze when I'm doing really really badly, I'm around a trigger and/or exercise, or have a lung infection, and that will be on the exhale. That's usually how I know i'm headed for serious trouble.
But anyways you may need to double your inhaled steroid dose and take your rescue inhaler ever 4-6 hours for a few days..that's what I do. I take Advair 250/50 and I have a 500/50 at my house incase of a flare up , a prescription for prednisone & xopenex. I like this plan, this way I can get started right away on feeling better incase I can't see my doctor..maybe you could ask for something like that for the future?
