Asthma meds make me sick!~Literally! Anyone else? - Asthma Message Board

I've had this problem for a little while now, when I get hungry..I get really, really sick. I get dizzy, nauseous, hot & sweaty, feel like i'm about 2 faint(and have) or throw up.
Someone on another board when I posted this mentioned she had had the same problem with her daughter, and the doctor had said 2 keep food in her stomach at all times. I asked my nurse about it today and she said steroids, in any form, could be harsh on the body. I told her how prednisone had made me very sick and she said I was just sensitive to medication in general ..but anyways..
Anyone else get sick from asthma meds? What do you do 4 it 2 prevent it..sometimes I don't have ready access to food or water, but that's what makes it go away..and it's comes on without warning, usually i'm seeing 5-6 hours after non eating anything..and not everytime.

Um..that could be a sugar problem too. I know I get that way if I don't eat every couple of hours. I'm on all kinds of asthma meds, but the dr had tested my sugar and it was low. Always carry a water bottle with you. I have one in my car and I literally take it with me everywhere. Also, keep a granola bar in your purse or bag (not sure how old you are). For a quick fix when you get that faint, you could suck on a piece of candy, but then you need to eat something as soon as you can. I snack on cheese sticks and nuts at work. Basically, if you eat something small every few hours to keep your sugar on track, you shouldn't have these problems anymore. Good luck.

Yeah...I don't know how much of this is an asthma medicatoin problem, but sounds more like hypoglycemia...

Prednisone can cause hypoglycemia if you're still on it.

I've been on prednisone twice in the past year, only for 5 days at a time, first time 40 mg per day, second time 60 mg per day..and I've had a cortisone shot for my ankle..
I've had this happen before I was on asthma medication, only it always appeared with my period..I have hormonal imbalances so I'm on bcp's now. But I assumed then it was b/c I used 2 be really anemic, i'm on & off anemic now. I originally thought it was just from having low red blood cell count..could it still be?
Will hypoglycemia go away if thats it? Can it be treated?
